Survivor
oil painting © Cynthia Allman Sold
There are two survivors in this painting. The first is the historic 1841 Medina County Courthouse, which was saved from the wrecking ball and restored in 1973. Its distinctive Victorian period mansard roof and clock tower cupola have been painted and photographed by numerous artists. This view shows a bit of the northeast side peeking through the street trees.
I was drawn to the interesting patterns created on the parking lot by the cast shadows from the trees, and it seemed natural to add a second survivor in one of the parking lot cracks.
